Great film. - Sadly the DVD offered no subtitles, which makes it very difficult to understand all those scenes in the Russian sub under command of Captain Briannow (played by Rutger Hauer) in which the submarine sailors are fightiing to extinguish the fire that broke out and the nuclear reactor which threatens to undergo a melt-down, because in all these scenes they are wearing oxygen masks and are talking through those masks covering their faces and of course also their mouths, so the sounds are mufffled and their sentences are difficult to make out. Some English subtitles would have been nice. Nonetheless it's a great film about a true story about events which almost led to World War Three! - And the exteremination of the Eastern seaboard of the US. It happened in October 1986 shortly before the peace talks between Reagan and Gorbatchov in Reykjavik on Oct 11th. 1986. Had the fire on the Russian sub not been extinguished and had the reactor melt-down not been stoppend, then ca. 200 kilotons of nuclear bombs - one thousand times stronger than the Hiroshima bomb Aug. 1945 - would have exploded. That would have been the end of our world as we know it. - By the way, the film shows a lot of similarities to the famous film The Hunt for Red October, which had been made about 7 or 8 years earlier. TV movie of the Enola Gay and crew. I watched it back 1980. The DVD version was good for a DVD of that vintage.

Acceptable quality for the time. Enjoyed the show. It would be good if there was a contents on the cover of each series as the episodes are not in order on the discs.

The dvd's arrived in decent time. I was so excited to get them but when I went to play them they didn't work on my dvd player. I am looking into buying another dvd player in the hopes that they'll work. I was really disappointed.
I love this movie my mum got his movie on VHS so I wanted to get it on DVD

You have a wide range of interesting DVDs that I have been looking for and failed to find anywhere else
The movie was just as I remembered it. The only issue was with the first cd which would go blank every once in awhile though each time it was only for a couple of seconds so it didn't bother me that much. The second cd had no issues.
The transfer copy job is excellent based on the source copy now not really available. No real compression artefacts which is helped by the film being in B&W and a running length under 90 minutes
So any compression just to have the movie fit on the disc is extremely minor.
As to the film, it's a solid little western. Joel McCrea is one of those actors who look as if they give nothing to their performance but in fact give much (not unlike Gary Cooper and Clint Eastwood early in their careers). He certainly adds gravitas and the support players don't lack for anything in their performance.
Not a John Ford or Raoul Walsh by any degree but good solid matinee entertainment to while away those late afternoons.

Hello! The problem was the audio. you were kind enough to try sending it again, but it was very low quality and no subtitles, thus the 1-star review. When I said that the quality was too low to really watch the film, I requested a refund. I got no further response and that's where the communication stopped. That's the disappointing truth.

Glorious Technicolor
The Adventures Of Robin Hood, Simply put, this film is the best version of Robin Hood and one of the best adventure films ever made. It’s the golden age of Hollywood at it’s best. Errol Flynn is Robin Hood for me, dashing, roughish, athletic and Olivia deHavilland the most beautiful and charming Marian. Add to that Basil Rathbone and Claude Rains as Sir Guy and Prince John, two of Hollywood’s best character actors. 102 minutes of pure fantasy from a creative team totally on top of it’s game, not forgetting the marvellous Korngold score!
OK, all well and good, but the HD DVD version I bought this week was restored using a process invented by someone at Warners called Ultra Resolution that digitally re-aligns the three strip Technicolor film to the original state it was in when shot in 1938. The result is amazing, the detail is such that you can count the chain mail rings and see the embroidery on the costumes. As for the colour you can see why they used to call it Glorious Technicolor, it’s like a painting brought to life. Stunning. Even my gf, who normally won’t watch anything made before about 1980, came in when the film was just starting and ended up watching the whole movie with me and enjoyed it!
An absolute classic
If you’ve never seen this film or perhaps are of a certain age and consider this too old for you then you are missing a classic. This film does not desire to be nor is it historically correct. What it is, is simply a wonderful entertainment playing the Robin Hood legend in full. Every character is rich and the adventure you are invited to follow is wonderful. Errol Flynn is at his physical and romantic best. De Havilland is perfect as the demure yet quietly sensual Maid Marion, and as to Basil Rathbone! What a wonderful villain he portrays. Please younger film buffs see this film and enjoy it as it plays. You are in for a real treat and a fantastic adventure!
