Great film. - Sadly the DVD offered no subtitles, which makes it very difficult to understand all those scenes in the Russian sub under command of Captain Briannow (played by Rutger Hauer) in which the submarine sailors are fightiing to extinguish the fire that broke out and the nuclear reactor which threatens to undergo a melt-down, because in all these scenes they are wearing oxygen masks and are talking through those masks covering their faces and of course also their mouths, so the sounds are mufffled and their sentences are difficult to make out. Some English subtitles would have been nice. Nonetheless it's a great film about a true story about events which almost led to World War Three! - And the exteremination of the Eastern seaboard of the US. It happened in October 1986 shortly before the peace talks between Reagan and Gorbatchov in Reykjavik on Oct 11th. 1986. Had the fire on the Russian sub not been extinguished and had the reactor melt-down not been stoppend, then ca. 200 kilotons of nuclear bombs - one thousand times stronger than the Hiroshima bomb Aug. 1945 - would have exploded. That would have been the end of our world as we know it. - By the way, the film shows a lot of similarities to the famous film The Hunt for Red October, which had been made about 7 or 8 years earlier. TV movie of the Enola Gay and crew. I watched it back 1980. The DVD version was good for a DVD of that vintage.

Acceptable quality for the time. Enjoyed the show. It would be good if there was a contents on the cover of each series as the episodes are not in order on the discs.

The dvd's arrived in decent time. I was so excited to get them but when I went to play them they didn't work on my dvd player. I am looking into buying another dvd player in the hopes that they'll work. I was really disappointed.
I love this movie my mum got his movie on VHS so I wanted to get it on DVD

You have a wide range of interesting DVDs that I have been looking for and failed to find anywhere else
The movie was just as I remembered it. The only issue was with the first cd which would go blank every once in awhile though each time it was only for a couple of seconds so it didn't bother me that much. The second cd had no issues.
The transfer copy job is excellent based on the source copy now not really available. No real compression artefacts which is helped by the film being in B&W and a running length under 90 minutes
So any compression just to have the movie fit on the disc is extremely minor.
As to the film, it's a solid little western. Joel McCrea is one of those actors who look as if they give nothing to their performance but in fact give much (not unlike Gary Cooper and Clint Eastwood early in their careers). He certainly adds gravitas and the support players don't lack for anything in their performance.
Not a John Ford or Raoul Walsh by any degree but good solid matinee entertainment to while away those late afternoons.

Hello! The problem was the audio. you were kind enough to try sending it again, but it was very low quality and no subtitles, thus the 1-star review. When I said that the quality was too low to really watch the film, I requested a refund. I got no further response and that's where the communication stopped. That's the disappointing truth.

More effective now…and stellar acting
Ten North Frederick, John O’Hara’s book TEN NORTH FREDERICK was hardly the masterpiece of political life, but it had strong characterizations, and the film, also not a masterwork, has a lot more going for it than we initially thought. Still of major consequence are the performances of the supporting players. In this tale of a failed political hopeful, his vengeful wife, his youngish girlfriend, and assorted other characters, the viewer is caught by the superb work of the cast. All seems possible with the effective work. Geraldine Fitzgerald, as always, is a total marvel — one of the finest of three decades. She should be almost deified. In this, she eschews her sensitive side to superbly capture the nastiness of a woman who want more and more… with less change to get it. But she is matched by young Ray Stricklyn as the confused young son… with at least one scene that should have done for him what the telephone scene in The Great Ziefgeld did for Luise Rainer. His work indicates the hope we all had for him…. but he correctly went to the L.A. stage where he scored enormous successes. Diane Varsi and Stuart Whitman both underscore the acting skills we first saw in them. The love story between the older Gary Cooper and the younger Suzy Parker works better than I had recalled. He tries with his expected skill to show the desperation of the man, but Suzy Parker DOES offer a multi-layered performance — far superior to the work she had done in other films. This film remains an interesting Hollywood look at the world of politics, and it should not be buried unmarked in the annals of solid craftmanship.
