Excellent!!!!
The film is excellent. Sid is great as Sir Rodney Ffing (the Black Fingernail.)As is Jim Dale as Lord Darcy. Kenneth and Peter are fantastic as Bidet and Cammonbert. They are however very like Captain fancy and Jock Strapp in carry on Dick. They end up looking like idiots as in Carry on Dick. The plot of the film is about Sid and Jim trying to stop the Beheadings at the guillotine and make a name called the Black Fingernail.A drawing of a fingernail is left for Bidet and Cammonbert to them to try and catch them but of course they don't.Bidet and Cammonbert try to catch him fail and in the end their heads come off at the guillotine with Sid as the executioner. A classic from beginning to end. Charles Hawtrey is fantastic as the Duc De Pomfritt. The film also includes the late Dany robin as Jacqueline.Sims is great as Desiree Dubarry.10/10
One of the best Carry ons
A hilarious carry-on is guaranteed when Sir Rodney Ffing and Lord Darcy decide to lend a hand to the noble heads of France during the revolution of 1789. Known only by the sign of the Black Fingernail, the pair effect a number of spectacular rescues -but the malevolent Citizen Camembert, head of the secret police, and his assistant Citizen Bidet, are soon on their trail. The elusive Black Fingernail, master of disguise, strikes again and again and again.
To say this is a rollicking farce from the Carry On team is an understatement. To me, this is one of the best of the series with a smooth run of double entendres coming your way, but it's the words between the punchline that is impressive. Some of the ideas are really clever like the Beatles integrated in the period singing. The production is rich, the script is sharp and the cast, as ever, are superb. You got Sid James as Sir Rodney Effing with two F's/the dreaded black fingernail, Kenneth Williams as Camembert and Peter Butterworth as Bidet and the rest of cast play their parts brilliantly. This is Carry on at its best, and has me in stitches every time.
