I love this movie my mum got his movie on VHS so I wanted to get it on DVD
The DVD arrived in good time and met expectation
You have a wide range of interesting DVDs that I have been looking for and failed to find anywhere else
The movie was just as I remembered it. The only issue was with the first cd which would go blank every once in awhile though each time it was only for a couple of seconds so it didn't bother me that much. The second cd had no issues.
The transfer copy job is excellent based on the source copy now not really available. No real compression artefacts which is helped by the film being in B&W and a running length under 90 minutes
So any compression just to have the movie fit on the disc is extremely minor.
As to the film, it's a solid little western. Joel McCrea is one of those actors who look as if they give nothing to their performance but in fact give much (not unlike Gary Cooper and Clint Eastwood early in their careers). He certainly adds gravitas and the support players don't lack for anything in their performance.
Not a John Ford or Raoul Walsh by any degree but good solid matinee entertainment to while away those late afternoons.

Hello! The problem was the audio. you were kind enough to try sending it again, but it was very low quality and no subtitles, thus the 1-star review. When I said that the quality was too low to really watch the film, I requested a refund. I got no further response and that's where the communication stopped. That's the disappointing truth.

Nostalgic viewing
In this era of fast cutting and flashy cinematography that makes your head spin and eyes hurt, it is a delight to watch a tale with a beginning a middle and an end, characters who seem real if a little stereotyped (it’s Catherine Cookson after all), and a plot full of heroes and villains which is pure escapism and doesn’t require a PhD in Mumble-Deciphering or asking what the heck is going on. It isn’t too challenging, giving us plenty of time to admire Jack’s dreamily expressive eyes and …other attractions. Made me forget my troubles for a couple of hours and that’s worth ten stars for me.
