Two men are released from the Arizona Territorial Prison at Yuma in 1898. One, the Dutchman, is out to get both gold and revenge from the people of a small mining town who had him imprisoned unjustly. The other, McBain, is just trying to go straight, but that is easier said than done once the Dutchman involves him in his gold theft scheme. A treasure to steal…a woman to win…a past to forget…

A superior horse opera that needs a pro music score!
Allen Ladd and Ernest Bourgine did outstanding work in this horse opera. The plot, the acting, the sets, all work well. This is one of Ladds better films, Bourgnine always adds to a film, Katy Jerado of "High Noon" fame is just great, and the rest of the cast work well. It is just a little gem of a film.
The one distraction is a no longer so often heard stock soundtrack of less than "A" feature quality. Maybe they were newer when the film was released, and maybe they have been given a rest so newer viewers will not recognize them, but I have heard these sound cuts far too often in many a 1960's western, TV show, horror film, documentary, and what not. I wonder how much better it would have been with a Dimitri Tiomkin, a Lionel Neuman, a Bernard Herrmann, or John Williams soundtrack. If they ever restore this, and it is worth restoring, I would have a new soundtrack done for it.
Still, this is a good film, a great western, and worth a watch. It is out of print right now but you can catch it on cable or get a used VHS print on E bay. Superior horse opera!

A Must For Alan Ladd Fans
Alan Ladd is one of the greatest western film stars ( which is why he was elected to the Western Performers Hall Of Fame in 2017), and 'The Badlanders' offers perhaps his lightest performance ever ( I have never seen Ladd smile so much in a movie and his dialogue with Ernest Borgnine is lighthearted and v ery well done). I know this is a remake of 'The Asphalt Jungle' ( a very different setting and outcome then here), but if you like Ladd ( one of my favorites), westerns, or "Buddy Films" ( which this certainly is) you will like it. If you are expecting the Asphalt Jungle you may not. It's about three people who are mistreated by life itself. 1: Peter Van Hoek aka " The Dutchman" ( Ladd), a mining engineer who is framed for robbery and sentenced to prison. 2: John McBain ( Borgnine), a convicted murderer who wants to go straight. 3: Anita ( Katy Jurado), a Mexican prostitute in Arizona ( it was filmed in Tucson) who.has a huge heart towards others. One of the strongest scenes is how McBain saves Anita from being raped by three men, and how Anita eas surprised that a white man would save a Mexican. Spoilers Ahead: The story involves stealing gold from a mine by "The Dutchman" and McBain and how ( with the help of Anita) overcome a double cross by Cyrul.Lounsberry ( Kent Smith), the husband of the owner of the mine). Lounsberry also has a mistress named Ada Winston ( Claire Smith) who "The Dutchman" likes. At the end they get the gold and keep it ( unlike 'The Asphalt Jungle') and because Anita saved both 'The Dutchman' and McBain, she got a full share, and she and McBain will get married, while 'The Dutchman' gets Ada. Again a must for Ladd fans. 10/10 stars.

Item received was not as described

Item received was not 'starring Helen Hayes' despite her picture being on the DVD, it was actually the version with Joan Hickson. I raised a complaint one week ago but still heard nothing in reply. Very poor customer service.

Fantastic

Fantastic, thank you so much

i purchased this from you several months ago

i purchased this from you several months ago. Unfortunately I never saved it . i owned the dvd that i purchased about 20 years ago.and when my computer crashed lost it a second time. Anyone who buys a movie three times likes it. What you sold me is near DVD quality. Your competition sells it for three times what you charged because once again it's out of print. To boot when the charge three times the price the qualitty is poor. I OWN 10,000videos that took 40 years to acquire making purchases all over the world. I say this to emphasize that you are the only quality shop doing what you do so customers can have confidence when they buy from you. The only problem dealing with you is your supply is limited otherwise I would be our best customer. For the record this is a fact based story with fictionalized characters.
