This movie was made in 1972, starring Sid James, Hattie Jacques, Terry Scott, Kenneth Williams, Barbara Windsor. Those actors\/actresses are fantastic ones. Thye are very funny and i think they have chosen the perfect roles for the carry on movies they have starred in. Sadly though, now these days, there is only Barbara Windsor still alive that i have mentioned earlier. Sid James, Terry Scott, Hattie Jacques and Kenneth Willams sadly died years ago. Carry on Doctor, Carry on Again Doctor, and Carry on Nurse are another example that is simalar ot Carry on Matron. They basically play matchmakers. The first client of the movie is a Carry On newcomer, Richard O'Callaghan, a solid replacement for Jim Dale who had recently left the series. Sid takes down his information and the machine pops out Joan Sims. Sid rejects it, but Hattie makes him set up a date. Kenneth Williams plays Mr. Snooper, a marriage counselor. He is a bachelor and he gives bad advice to the couples. He is told to get married to keep his job. Sid decides to intercept Joan Sims, because he likes her. Hattie calls Charles Hawtrey to follow him. Jacki Piper makes her appearance in the bar where all the meetings are supposed to take place. She plays Sally Martin, who is an up and coming star. Ricahrd mistakes her as his date and she mistakes him as a publicity agent who is to take photos of her. Jacki looks gorgeous in a very short dress. He wants to have dinner and she wants to go to her place and do it(take photos). There is a lot of dialog confusing sex and photos. she tells him she is going to strip down and he gets nervous. She is just planning to take photos. Charles continues to follow Sid as he leaves the bar. We hear the Hitchcock theme in the background. Good music and a fun scene as Sid eludes him. Back to Jacki and Richard. Jacki comes wearing a pink nightie and a black bra and panties. Wow! There are a few more lines of play and she disrobes. She does a nice little spin to show off that perfect body. She finally realizes he is not a photographer and they tell each other what they are there for. He runs out embarrassed. Jacki Piper has no ego and does not come across as hey look at my body which I really love. She is so sweet and proper and looks so hot in her undies. Kenneth meets with Hattie about getting married. After that Sid meets with Joan at her apartment, Bernard Bresselaw shows up as her wrestler boyfriend. Then Richard shows up to meet her as his date. Sid escapes and Richard is thrown out. Jacki calls the next day to find out he is in the hospital for his wounds. She is wearing another short skirt and she meets him at the hospital. They have a funny scene where they discuss their night and the man in the next bed is totally amazed at what he hears. Hattie decides to match herself with Kenneth because Sid likes Joan. Later Terry Scott is matched up with Jacki's new roommate Imogen Hasall. He tries to make love to her and people keep interrupting. Jacki comes out again in her underwear and walks around. She looks perfect again. She is incredible. Anyway at the end all the couples get together and have a big food fight. What a great way to end this funny and fun film. It has a stronger plot than any of the six previous films and comes close to being a comedy-drama at times. It's more realistic than the other films and even has a little bit of social commentary in it, which is the last thing that I would expect in a \"Carry On\" film.\u003cbr\u003eSid James and Hattie Jacques make great leads, playing their roles relatively straight. I liked the fact that Jacques was afford such a big role, her first that amounted to more than a cameo since \"Carry On Constable\". Kenneth Connor, one of only two actors to appear in all of the first seven films, is also very good in an unusually straight role. Returning from his temporary sabbatical, Charles Hawtrey is effortlessly hilarious as Pintpot and gets the lion's share of the best lines. He provides much of the film's humour.\u003cbr\u003eThe funniest sequence in the film is probably Charlie and Pintpot driving a heavily pregnant woman and her husband to a hospital and back several times due to multiple false alarms. There are many great moments to this film, with all the team except Hattie Jaques and Barbera Windsor. As usual it is Williams who shines through (as Caeser), but all the team put in top performances, notably Connor (as Hengis). With such lines as \"Infamy, infamy , Oh they've all got it in for-me\" I say it again Williams is the STAR. We start off in England during a typical summer (RAIN), where Hengis and Horsa are going about their lives (making square wheels and thus inventing the Window Frame) They are captured by the Romans and taken to Rome to be sold as slaves. Eventually Hengis ends up as Caeser's body guard who swaps roles with Caeser to meet Cleopatra. (So many have made reference to the actual sets\/costumes used from 20th Century Fox's 'Cleopatra').\u003cbr\u003eThe 'Romanised' names which reflect today's names (Slave-traders known as 'Marcus and Spencius' etc) add to the usual absurdity, but absurdity is never done better by this lost era of comedies - you never can help laughing when the team deliver the lines better than anyone could today (Check out Tommy Cooper and Stan Laurel).\u003cbr\u003eThe time is coupled with the Roman occupation of Britain and Caesar's Rome. Yes, we know that Britain wasn't properly occupied and the population weren't stone age like portrayed in the film but who cares?! Most of the main stars had died (Kenneth Williams,Charles Hawtrey, Sid James, Hattie Jaques, Petter Butterworth) thus many new stars were required.. Those originals that were still with us were all approached, but often only offered small parts, and thus turned them down (even the role of Columbus was offered to a new star first (Robbie Coltrain) however we do get Jim Dale). Many of the jokes are taken from previous films, but the new actors manage to succesfully deliver them making Columbus much better than the last film (Emmannuelle). Jim Dale shines through out, however my favourite has to be Julian Clary (in a role that would originally have to go to good old Charlie Hawtrey). The only part of this film I do not like is the end. Our \"heroes\" are left looking rather stupid, having been pawned off with fools gold by the Americans - NOT the way to finish a Carry On film in my opinion. Although lacking the good old \"Ooh Matron\", Sids guffaws, and Babs' giggles we do get a hint at the good old days in Clary's opening sentence with the classic Hawtrey opening \"Oh Hello!\" - A good tribute.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eVery good!\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI know its not up to the standard of alot of the older films, but its miles ahead of Emmanuelle and England im my opinion. It's boisterous, full of double entrendres, and though it's a send-up of the western genre, you can sense there's a love for the genre - Sid James in particular looks like he's enjoying him self as the Rumpole Kid. The rest of the cast, from Kenneth Williams as the judge, Charles Hawtrey as big heap(!!), and Jim Dale as the drain expert mistaken as a marshal, are on top form. Joan Sims and Angela Douglas add the glamour, Bernard Blesslaw as little heap is funny. The western sets are really good, the high noon segment in the end is enough reason to see this. You can feel the charged atmosphere of people who aren't exactly lost but are in fact looking for something.\u003cbr\u003eThe thing I think I'll take away from this movie is Liz Frazer's line \"Prove you're not shy\" is probably the culmination of the doctor's decision making. He's a bumbling character played by the talented Kenneth Connor who gives the everyman a sense of poetry. Perhaps his ultimate decision may sound impulsive or rash but it's not at all unseen. It takes the death aspect out of war, and that can only be a good thing. I was particularly amused by this bawdy romp through the humorous side of World War II. Those were the days. They meet Phil Silvers who plays Sergeant Nocker. He helps get them into the legion. I don't know why people pick on Phil in this film. I think he does a wonderful job. He has always kept me laughing with his style. Charles Hawtrey and Kenneth Williams play soldiers in the legion. Bernard Bresselaw might have his best part in the Carry On films, playing the evil Shiek. Angela goes after Jim after he was cleared from wrong doing. There are scenes of men taking advantage of her on her trip, with some funny one liners from her. She finally arrives and is kidnapped by the sheik. Anita Harris plays a very sexy belly dancer who also helps kidnap Jim and Phil for the sheik. Simpson helps them out and Phil escapes to bring in the legion. They find Jim and Simpson left for dead. They find the sheik and they find Angela. She is in a harem outfit, but covered by veils, ugh! They rescue her and they all go home. This was another great Carry On. Angela Douglas is adorable. Jim Dale is so likable. It is hilarious, it is unique, it feels so different to every other Carry on film, there is a definite newness to it, as a stand alone film it's superb. The plot is like no other Carry on film, a sinister family, taking young girls and turning them into shop dummies, more like a Hammer from then a Carry on.\u003cbr\u003eThe newness I mentioned is provided by Harry H Corbett and Fenella Fielding, even though she's appeared in Regardless she still felt new. Both are so good, they have some truly funny moments, but in Screaming it's Kenneth Williams that shines, for me this was one of his best performances, he is just so funny, 'Frying tonight!' Smaller roles for some of the supporting cast, Charles Hawtrey, Joan Sims, Jon Pertwee, but each performs brilliantly.\u003cbr\u003eFunny throughout, too many moments to pick out a best bit, but the scenes with Odd bod and Junior are really funny.\u003cbr\u003eFenella looked incredible, her figure was outstanding, and that dress made her look incredible, coupled with that voice she was perfectly cast in the role.\u003cbr\u003eThe production values are great, straight out of Hammer horror, as it the music.\u003cbr\u003eIt's a classic comedy, the film of my childhood. 10\/10\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eFoul Feet Smell Something Horrible\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIf you only ever watch one Carry On film make sure it's this one. Talbot Rothwell throws everything into this - a mad scientist, a deliciously evil and beautiful sister, an effective looking monster, a couple of Jeckyll and Hyde transformations, a spooky mansion, fog shrouded woods and a couple of inept coppers in the style of Holmes and Watson. Peter Butterworth has never been better and Harry H Corbett is simply stunning in his only Carry On appearance. Also worthy of mention are Jon Pertwee and Charles Hawtrey despite these two only being on screen for one scene each. The story revolves around missing young women who are being turned into tailors dummies by Kenneth Williams' manic Doctor Watt. Jim Dale tries to persuade Detective Sergeant Bung and his idiotic assistant Slowbottom that his date Doris has been abducted by a hideous monster while they were enjoying a night in Hokum Woods, 'How far did you go?' asks Bung (meaning how far into the woods they went), 'Oh not far I've only known her a year!' says Dale and that sums up the humour, not very intellectual but very very funny, in fact the funniest line comes when Corbett - having stolen the dummy of Doris from a shop while under the influence of one of Watts potions - turns to Jim Dale (number 1 suspect) and says 'I suppose I took it!!'. Every thing in this - the 12th Carry on - hits the mark and along with 'Carry On At Your Convenience' shows a team clearly enjoying themselves and it's a pleasure to watch time and time again. As a kid I liked most of the Carry On films but now have become browned off by the majority except for Sergeant. Sergeant is a heart-warming tale featuring William Hartnell -the first Doctor Who and with excellent bit roles such as in The Yangste Incident and his last platoon. It features some of the well known Carry On faces such as Terry Scott and Kenneth Connor who is my favourite in this one as Private Strong. Excellent lines that still make me laugh and scenes that do likewise. Also starring the late great legend that was Bob Monkhouse. It was also the first of the great movie spoofs in the \"Carry On\" tradition.\u003cbr\u003e\"Spying\" -- coming on the heels of \"Jack\" -- is among the best spy spoofs ever.\u003cbr\u003eKenneth Williams (using his \"Hancock's Half Hour\" snide voice throughout), Cribbins, Charles Hawtrey, and Barbara Windsor (in her first \"Carry On\") are inept agents sent out by \"The Chief\" (Eric Barker) to recover a formula.\u003cbr\u003eAlso among the good guys are Jim Dale, as a James Bond type character (looking remarkably like a young Timothy Dalton) who is always being thwarted by his own colleagues.\u003cbr\u003eThe sets are fantastic. There is the high-class restaurant where Williams and Cribbins are in black tie and Hawtry is in the clothes of a cycling racer. There's the \"Vienna\" set (actually a sound-stage at Pinewood) so reminiscent of \"The Third Man\" one almost expects to see Orson Welles lurking in the shadows (he isn't, worse luck). The have a cross-country train like that where so many espionage thrillers have taken place, and which gives one the feeling of constant, claustrophobic movement despite being stage-bound. They wonderfully capture the spirit of the Casbah in a scene with Eric Pohlmann, who was in several episodes of \"Danger Man.\" And there are the space-age corridors of the underground hide-out of the bad guy, with the futuristic, slightly off-kilter oblong doors.\u003cbr\u003eThe timing of the film could not have been better. Made after \"Dr. No\" and contemporaneous with \"From Russia With Love\" (which also had an exciting train sequence), \"Spying\" came out just as James Bond was prepared to explode with \"Goldfinger.\" Because of its black-and-white photography it really seems closer in spirit to the great television show \"Danger Man\" -- though the Vienna scenes could have been cut out of \"The Third Man.\" It's hard to believe Michael Caine's \"Harry Palmer\" movies were released after \"Carry On Spying.\"\u003cbr\u003e\"Carry On\" movies were always at their best with spoofs of specific movie genres. \"Carry On Spying\" is one of the better entries in the series and can stand on its own as a remarkable spoof of espionage thrillers. Not quite up to the standard of carry on up the khyber, but nevertheless the cast all give great performances, especially the wonderful Joan Sims who plays Lady Evelyn Bagley. Lady Baggely is joining the group to search for her long lost baby boy, ( Terry Scott). Her servant June ( Jackie Piper) falls in love with her son jungle boy. I don't want to spoil to much of the film if you have not already seen it. Hawtrey is good but doesn't have as much screen time as the others. Kenneth Connor is good as Claude Chumley. Two of the teachers find romance; Miss Wheeler with Connor's shy Gregory Adams, and Grigg with Miss Alcock. As soon as the old lecher claps eyes on the latter, he mutters her name thus: \"All...cock!\". Among the 'saboteurs' are a couple of future stars - Richard O'Sullivan ( whose character is called 'Robin', believe it or not! ) and Carol White ( of the groundbreaking B.B.C. play 'Cathy Come Home' ).\u003cbr\u003eFunniest moment?
